I edit a lot of really bad manuscripts that have me wondering if the writer has an "American Idol" delusion. However, this was NOT one of those manuscripts.This book is amazingly good. It's unlike any other animal training manual I've ever read or edited. Ralf is a naturally talented writer and a super-hero dog whisperer. He gets inside of a dog's head and knows how they think, feel, and behave.He goes into detail about training, feeding, emotional connections, how your dog thinks and communicates, and how to live your dog as a family member.I can't recommend this book highly enough.For a living, Ralf works with dogs and owners to train both how to communicate with each other. His specialty, however is working with dogs who have deep behavioral problems. He has performed miracles with violent dogs and with emotionally dysfunctional dogs who might have been put down if it weren't for him.If you have a dog—Chihuahua to Mastif—GET THIS BOOK

I've historically approached my career with a sense of inertia, but doing the exercises around personal value propositions really helped me focus on both 1) what it is that I enjoy, and 2) what it is that I'm good at. I think this would be a useful exercise for anyone--whether currently comfortable with their place in the job market or not. With Barnett's experience at McKinsey and as a professor, he does a great job at communicating his points clearly, concisely, and effectively.What this book is not: a wishy-washy, feel-good approach to "pursuing your dreams." Barnett's method is tested and rigorous. His cases are relatable and well-chosen. His writing is interesting and easy to follow.I would recommend this to any friends or colleagues looking to make a change, or even just to better understand themselves.

By Sandy Haviland Barnett's strategic approach to seeking out and ultimately landing a personally satisfying career is unlike any other book or article that I've read on the topic. The application of business strategy (something I'm familiar with as an MBA) to planning a successful career is both intuitive and novel. I especially enjoyed going through exercises to create my Personal Value Proposition and to plan (and prepare) for different outcomes of my recent job search (similar to scenario planning at work). Without Barnett's guidance, I doubt I would have developed the personal insight and the best tools to successfully execute my career search.

Reading this story on a cooling late summer evening, I found myself shivering as the description of the blizzard drew me into the blowing cold whiteout. About the Author D. E. Ambrose is an avid sports fan and follows football (go Barcelona!), cricket (rally round the West Indies) and basketball (San Antonio Spurs!). He lives in St. George’s, Grenada, and lectures at the T.A. Marryshow Community College in Communication Studies, Spanish, French and German. He attended the Grenada Boys’ Secondary School and went on to study Foreign Languages at Principia College (C ’93). He has a Master’s Degree in Education (Curriculum & Instruction).

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Author's First Book A Great Success! By Deb Eastwood Great book. I read the whole thing in one day. A very realistic look at Grenada, the language, the culture, the people, and the security forces. Although fictional, it reads true to so many locations and I found myself traveling right into the towns and areas with the characters and enjoying every moment. The plot was great with twists and turns, drama, and enjoyable characters...many of which were women. I love how David included these women in surprising ways. You will enjoy this book whether you are from Grenada or not...but if you are from Grenada, you will love how very true it rings!

I read it in one sitting. As a local, I'm really proud of this work of fiction from a local author. D.E balances the suspense, fiction and detail really nicely in the book. This is a well researched book, based on the details of artillery, ships and the workings on the under world. Anyone looking to escape to the island of Grenada and have a bit of excitement and espionage along the way will love this fictional work.

It is fast paced and packed full of action and intrigue. The characters are true to Grenadian life and the local vernacular used in dialogue in the book is easy to read and understand. I started to read the book but just couldn't put it down. The style and pace would appeal to all ages but in particular young adults. Definitely a great read.

Originally published as four novellas (one for each season, naturally), "Seasons of Truth" is the first volume in a work of considerably larger scope.The story centers on Carlos, a Benedictine monk at the Abbey of Sant Cugat, north of Barcelona. Carlos is a healer and a scholar. His pursuit of knowledge has cracked open a door that factions in the Church want to keep firmly shut. Combining politics, action, adventure, mystery, the supernatural, and even a touch of romance, Seasons of Truth begins within the confines of a small monastic community (think Umberto Eco, Name of the Rose), expands to a larger medieval drama within a complex heterogeneous church structure (think Katherine Kurtz), and eventually explodes into a sprawling fantasy (think Brandon Sanderson). Magner even weaves in threads from China's medieval / supernatural past.I give this book five stars, which I am rounding up for potential. As I mentioned in my review of the first novella, the opening chapters include some choppy flashbacks and confusing sequences. To the new reader, I can say without reservation that this novel rewards your careful attention. As Carlos' experiences lead him deeper into the truth (about the danger threatening Christendom, and about himself) flashbacks to his youth are replaced by narrative leaps to the unfolding revelations reaching Carlos through the cracks in his reality. Throughout the whole work, the pace shifts quickly between the monastically meditative and superhero frenzy.Magner is making some risky choices with these shifts, which to some degree disrupt the immersive draw of his writing. And yet, the style is very appropriate to the subject matter: Carlos is in a life or death struggle not just with forces beyond his understanding, but with his own faith. Moments of quiet, calm, and reflection create a highly dynamic counterpoint to scenes of breakneck action -- in Carlos' own life or in the visions that more and more frequently consume his awareness and threaten his sanity.Overall, each "season" is stronger than the one before, resulting in an exciting beginning to what I hope is an equally satisfying series.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Definitely a good read! By Washuchan I got this book on Sunday at noon, and didn't (couldn't) put it down until I finished it the same evening. The story starts out like historical fiction (which I like), then quickly becomes historical fantasy (which I like even better). The pacing of the story is quick, but has a refreshing mix of conteplative and action sequences. I hope the next installment is high on the aiuthor's to-do list.
