5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Ugh! By Pond Dweller I've only read about 10 pages, and I'm not sure I can read any more. Each and every paragraph begins and ends with quotation marks. Numerous grammatical errors. Heavy advocation for rawhide bones FOR PUPPIES, when most vets steer dog owners, especially puppy owners, away from rawhide these days, and if they don't tell you not to ever give them to your dogs, they tell you to use them only occasionally as a very special treat. It seems like there is some good basic information for new puppy owners, but I was looking for more breed specific stuff about my new Siberian Husky puppy, who I adopted from a shelter at 5 months of age just a few days ago. I'm an experienced dog owner. I'll try and dig through, though the quotation marks are really annoying. I'll amend my review as necessary. I'm so glad I bought the Kindle edition at only $4.99, rather than the print version. There is only an extremely short preview of the book, which would have knocked a few stars off anyway; I wasn't willing to shell out $12.99 without knowing more about the content. Whew.

By coco This is the worst book I've ever bought, you can find much more info about huskies by just looking at the 3 first links of google after you type Siberian husky. Total waste of time and money, I'm sure the time wasted in reading this "book" felt worst than the money lost. I just bought a husky and I'm getting some other books recommended by some friends, if you have a husky or plan to by one, don't even think about buying this so called "new book how to train and understand your Siberian husky", you will regret it.

By Alvaro D J Estaba Repetitious and boring, it uses the gender and age of the dogs---he or she; puppy or dog continuously from sentence to poorly structured hard to read sentence. I appreciate his good intentions since he says he loves to write but definitely he does need a good editor to decipher what he writes.

Not Your Average Adult Coloring Book By Amazon Customer Unusual hand-drawn illustrations (varying in complexity from picture to picture), plus plenty of healing-related scriptures - a great combination for a relaxing, spiritually-soothing, coloring experience. Also a good idea as a gift for someone who is in hospital or recovering from illness. Note that it is a Christian faith-based book - the scriptures are from the Holy Bible. Amazon's "look inside" unfortunately doesn't give a decent look inside this book. The Lulu website does offer a free sample of the book which gives a much better idea of what to expect when you purchase the book.

About the Author

Robert Cox (PhD, University of Pittsburgh) is Professor Emeritus at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. His principal research areas are environmental and climate change communication, and strategic studies of social movements. One of the nation’s leading scholars in environmental communication, Cox is coeditor of The Routledge Handbook of Environment and Communication (2015), as well as authoring numerous studies of environmental and climate change campaigns. He has served three times as President of the Sierra Club, the largest grassroots U.S. environmental organization, and is also on the Board of Directors for Earth Echo International whose mission is “to empower youth to take action that restores and protects our water planet.” Cox continues to advise environmental groups on their communication programs, and serves as an advisory editor for the journal, Environmental Communication. Cox regularly participates in environmental and climate change initiatives and has campaigned with former Vice President Al Gore, singer Melissa Etheridge, and other public figures. He also enjoys hiking and trekking in the Himalayas and the southern Appalachian Mountains in the U.S.

Phaedra C. Pezzullo (Ph.D., University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill) is an associate professor at Indiana University in Bloomington. Her interdisciplinary training in environmental sciences and humanities informs her principle areas of publication, including environmental justice and health communication, public advocacy, tourist studies, and the anthropocene. She is the author of Toxic Tourism: Rhetorics of Travel, Pollution, and Environmental Justice (2007), which won four book awards, including the Christine L. Oravec Research Award in Environmental Communication. Pezzullo also coedited Environmental Justice and Environmentalism: The Social Justice Challenge to the Environmental Movement (2007) and edited Cultural Studies and the Environment, Revisited (2010). She served on the national Sierra Club's Environmental Justice Committee for seven years, as commissioner of the City of Bloomington’s Environmental Commission in Indiana for eight years, and as an ally or faculty sponsor for many environmental justice communities, from those who lobbied to remediate the PCB landfill in Warren County, North Carolina, to the students at Indiana University who successfully campaigned to retire the campus coal plant.

By Steve Tedder The authors have a clear, well thought out style of writing that makes the subject matter as easy to understand as possible. Let's face it, the GH4 is a complicated camera, but there's no reason a beginner shouldn't buy one and grow into it. To my way of thinking, that actually makes more sense than buying a simple camera and then trading up or buying a succession of more and more capable cameras. That way, you no sooner get familiar with a camera then you're ready to get a new one. Why not just get a camera that will do the job and stick with it for a while?This book gives you the knowledge you need, step by step, to start using the camera effectively right out of the box, and then to start using the more advanced still and video modes. Frankly it will take study and practice, but eventually familiarity will come. The authors point out that there are two or three ways of changing practically every setting on the camera, and you should work out which ones you are personally most comfortable with. Once you've done that, and gotten some practice with using different capabilities, it's time to start customizing the controls to suit your usage. Otherwise, you'll be resetting the controls over and over as you learn new stuff.Dr. Matsumoto's background is similar to mine, so maybe we think alike. But I couldn't imagine a better guide for the amateur photographer.

Another disappointing guide book By Jonno Sorry to have to say that in my opinion this book lets down the audience it specifically claims to target - the stills photographer wanting to learn how to use the GH4 as a video tool. Why is it that time and time again "missing manual" genre camera guidebooks spend endless time drivelling on either about photography 101 basics (aperture/shutter speed duh) or else ridiculous in camera "special effects" super auto picture features etc etc. Is there some set of master templates somewhere that these guys just duplicate every time a new model comes out? Any competent photographer buying this camera, even if unfamiliar with Panny menu layouts will find their way round basic stills shooting in 5 minutes or doing custom white balance etc in 10 minutes without any need for reading anything. The first half of this book is basically a waste of time for the stills to video convertee. Several remaining chapters are of little use - customising buttons and menus is clearly regarded as highly advanced - its 3/4 the way through ; it should be in the introducion. Its followed by a chapter on flash!!!! No mention of on camera lighting for video etc. LOts of redundant information on auto features when manual is the only sane way to shoot video ...Recommending Cine D or V for shooting video is dumb, and there is no No mention of how to shoot in 4k and downsize to HD ( probably one of the best options for quality footage for video newbies) and well.... one could go on and on. This book is for abject beginners and will teach you almost nothing about video assuming you know yer jpegs from yer raw already. It also bizarrely contains sections on spotting scopes and microscopes but nothing on advanced video lensing eg anamorphics.I personally would recommend two sources for the stills literate buyer of the GH4 trying to master its video features, 1/ Caleb's newly released video training which although 3x the price of this book is ten times more valuable( DSLR shooter) and Andrew Reid's E-Book (EOHSD.com) although Reid is way more cine oriented and has some excellent information that might perhaps be too moviemaker oriented for some.Having got that off my chest I suppose the book would be helpful for photographic newbies to complement the limited Panasonic manuals, but I have no idea why a neophyte would buy a GH4 in the first place. Its a killer camera for advanced amateurs /video enthusiasts and students of cinematography and of course many pros are using it as a B camera or even their A machine depending on shooting circumstances. New users might be better buying a used a GH3 ( going cheap now) and see how they like it, then when ready for the advanced video features on the GH4 ie 4k etc go for the upgrade. The learning curve from the GH3>GH4 is all about video - when you are ready.I am returning my copy.

Patterson I purchased the authors' book for the GH3, and find this book to be of similar caliber. The GH4 is a complex camera, and the manual provided by Panasonic is OK, but not comprehensive. This book goes into far more detail, and in most cases, explains many features that the Panasonic manual falls short with. I don't think every bit of information is entirely accurate, but for the most part, the book delivers much more than the owner manual.The authors don't appear to have extensive knowledge of video. Based on my experience shooting video on the GH4, some of their feature descriptions are inaccurate. The book is more useful for people shooting photos, but I believe the GH4's popularity is largely due to its outstanding video capabilities. Thus, I can't give the book 5 stars, as the video content falls a bit short. BTW, the book contains no info on VLOG, as that feature was added to the GH4 after the book was published.All things considered, I recommend this book as a supplement to the Panasonic owner manual. Of course, you can wade through the multitude of conflicting opinions ("facts" as some would believe) on many internet web sites and forums to glean information about the GH4. BTW, there are a couple Facebook GH4-specific groups. I think this book will set you straight on the majority of important details, and serve as a reference manual.Now get out there and shoot something!

Missoula by Jon Krakauer is a close examination of the cause and effect of a series of alleged sexual assaults in a Montana college town.

Missoula is the second largest city in Montana, and the Missoula-based University of Montana (UM) Grizzlies football team is a source of significant local pride. In December 2010, a scandal began in which four members of the football team were accused of gang rape, but were not charged with a crime. A year later, an investigation by a former Missouri Supreme Court justice found that unreported and unprosecuted rapes were a significant issue at UM. In 2012, a Department of Justice investigation found a similar problem. The scandal evolved with media coverage although Missoula's rape statistics were not unusual for a college town. A must have guide to this complex story by Jon Krakauer By Kate's reviews I've read several of Jon Krakauer's books and find his narratives credible and informative. I was pleasantly surprised to find that Krakauer had taken up the story about the rape cases at University of Montana at Missoula.This Instaread guide was indispensable in keeping this complex story understandable. The summary, and especially the excellent analysis, pointed out aspects of the story I had overlooked. It also did an excellent job highlighting the serious after effects suffered by the victims. This Instaread is a must-read before reading the book. There are so many characters involved with so many different legal outcomes, it is easy to get lost in the narrative but this included all the major events and in enough detail to make the situation fully understandable, even if you haven't read the book. I found myself referring to this summary and analysis several times as I read. It was accurate and reliable and it enhanced the reading experience. I highly recommend it.

Sad But True Relevant Information By CC There is so many different faucets of this complex issue that to use a guide to understand and get to know the players is essential, in order to grasp the entirety of the situation.It is detailed and exacting in it's honesty this guide if you will breaks everything down that you might just have missed in the big picture while focusing on the details.This book also deals with the underlying social issues that are forced to be dealt with as a result to the serious issue of sexual assault on campuses specifically this one in Montana. The author defers from making a judgement rather he sticks to just the facts.Which makes this situation clearer but no less disconcerting well written and edited with excellent formatting a worthy read for comprehension of the big picture.

So, if your looking for a gardening book try THE COMPLETE BOOK OF HERBS by Lesley Bremness or RODALE'S ILLUSTRATED ENCYCLOPEDIA OF HERBS.THE MEANING OF HERBS is filled with fun factoids and trivial tales that may or may not be true. For example, "Early herbalists prescribed oregano to those who 'are given to too much sighing' and enraged bears were believed to calm themselves by chewing on oregano bushes." This may be, but knowing where bears come from and the origin of oregano, I suspect the bears in question discovered the oregano cure quite by accident in someone's cultivated herb patch (probably right over there in the Great Smokies). And of course, some human must have been around to observe and record the enraged bear as he became becalmed by chewing oregano leaves. (Wonder what enraged him to begin with? Could it be he got into the gardener's bee hive and tried to eat oregano flower honey?).THE MEANING OF HERBS will make a nice party favor, thank-you gift, or a small present for a friend. Filled with somewhat amusing and interesting anectdotes about herbs (and bears) as well as lots of pretty drawings, it's sure to send a warm and positive message.

By Attalie Johnson So I purchased this book, along with its sister book "The Meaning of Flowers," as I had come across it at a friends home, and found it to be charming. The information it presents isn't necessarily for someone interested in learning about herb gardening, or even which herbs compliment certain foods. As the title mentions, its more centered around myth and folk lore. I purchased it as a coffee table book for guest to peruse, and find cutesy little stories in connection with their favorite herb or flower. With that in mind, you may find it to be nice as well. Happy reading!

It's always wonderful to see larger cize city residents discovering the world of growing something they really enjoy. The book is filled with very interesting information about myth,the orgions of herb related language form all over the world. The lore of why, when and how herbs have been used for many centuries is fascinating. I'll keep this book in mind for additional little friend gifts in the future months...

Kern People who don't have a piano would probably be surprised to learn that buying a piano is as treacherous and intimidating an undertaking as buying a car--with many of the same perils: the expectation that negotiating a final purchase price is routine; a lack of clear data on the "real" wholesale or retail prices of pianos; and sales tactics that would make a used car salesman blush. For years, the major purchasing guide for consumers was Larry Fine's "Piano Book." But while annual price guide supplements for that volume were published yearly, the main text had not revised in many years.The "Acoustic and Digital Piano Buyer" is thus a long-awaited and much needed update. The content of the book has been radically revised, and in my opinion, for the better. Much of the original Piano Book was devoted to rather dense and technical discussion of piano construction, understandable given Fine's background as a piano technician, but often more confusing or irrelevant than helpful. The Piano Buyer gives just the right amount of detail so that readers can understand the difference between the actions of an upright and a grand piano, say, or understand what a salesperson is saying to them about laminated vs. solid wood soundboards, but not so much detail that it is overwhelming.Other changes to the Piano Buyer that are highly welcome include a chapter on considerations of how to situate your piano in your room for the best acoustic qualities, and a greatly enlarged section on digital pianos and computer models of piano sounds. This emphasis is much needed, as sales for digital pianos have increased greatly over the past few years, whereas acoustic piano sales have declined sharply. The Piano Buyer retains, however, many of the still-relevant sections of the Piano Book; for example, the chapters on dealing with salespeak and buying a used piano. And, of course, the Piano Buyer still includes the absolutely essential pricing guide for all new pianos sold in the U.S. at this time. Having this guide by your side while you are negotiating to purchase a piano will save you many times over the purchase price of this book.Which raises a relevant question: As pointed out in other reviews, the Piano Buyer is available online. Why, then, should anybody buy this book? I can think of a couple of compelling reasons. First, and maybe it's just me, but I find navigating online books to be quite cumbersome. Flipping through pages and finding what you want takes a lot longer with an online version than a hard copy, and it's MUCH harder to simply leaf through pages to pick out interesting tidbits. Second, unless you want to be hauling a laptop with you to various piano stores, and/or you want to be able to stare at a larger reading space than what you get with a Blackberry, the hard copy version will be infinitely easier to cart around with you while you're piano shopping, and--trust me on this--you *will* want to have this with you while you're shopping.People shopping for a piano for the first time often voice the shell-shocked sentiment that they had no idea that it would be so difficult to sort through the various sales pitches and hard-sell pressure they encounter to find the right piano for them at the right price. The "Piano Buyer" is one of the best resources out there to help you make an educated decision and arrive at a fair price.

Simply the best By Larry The Piano Buyer is the new name for Larry Fine's annual Supplement to the Piano Book which has been published for around the last 20 years. The Piano Buyer includes many new topics not previously covered in the older supplements. Among these are a lengthy section on digital pianos and hybrid pianos (which I did not read since I'm not interested in them) and many separate articles of great interest to pianophiles that will change each time the Piano Buyer is published. This edition included articles on room acoustics, differences in tonal quality among top tier pianos, thoughts of a master rebuilder, increasing quality of Chinese pianos, among others.For many people, I think the most important sections of the book are the price lists, rankings, and specific manufacturer news. Fine calculates an SMP(suggested maximum price) based on a uniform markup from the dealer wholesale cost. This is much more useful than the MSRP, which is determined by the manufacturer and is essentially meaningless. And I think they are the only up to date (revised every 6 months) lists of their kind anywhere.The rankings by tiers are always controversial (pianists tend to defend their own choices with their lives) but IMHO they are the fairest, most evenly balanced and thoughtful rankings anywhere. They are not based only on Fine's opinions but include opinions of many techs, pianists, and other industry people. Whether you're looking to spend 2K or 200K, you'll find useful advice. Fine is particularly careful to explain his methodology and terminology.Simply the best book of its kind by far.

I had no idea a book like this even existed until recently. I am currently shopping for a piano, my second piano after 40 years with the first one, and I have read and reread this several times. There is technical information, ratings, and reviews of all the piano brands I have ever heard and some I had never heard of. There is information about both acoustic and digital pianos. There is everything from buying old ones, buying new ones, buying high-end ones, and a model and pricing guide, although guides like this have to be used cautiously because dollar exchange rates (for imported pianos) and a myriad of other things may affect pricing.Whenever someone rates products there is bound to be some subjectivity. But I believe that the experts would agree with Larry Fine's big picture even if they might quibble about some small points. I didn't realize how much I didn't know until I read this book, and frankly, I don't know how anyone can buy a piano without it.
