Read Ebook Holy Sh!t - The Insanity of Blind Faith: Volume One: Christianity, by Casper Rigsby

In this book, Casper Rigsby addresses the doctrine of Christianity known as the bible, and dives head long into the insanity within that text. The book will introduce the non-Christian to some of the most irrational and illogical ideas within the Christian doctrine and will remind the progressive or moderate Christian of just how insane the bible is. It will also present the notion that by wearing the label of Christian they are signing a metaphorical terms of service agreement that says that they agree with all the insanity presented there by proxy, and will hopefully leave the reader questioning why anyone would believe any of this nonsense. Lastly, this title will ask the reader to take off the blinders of faith, even if only for a minute, and take an objective look at the insanity within the bible.

He is the author of the bestselling title The Bible in a Nutshell, a prominent blogger at Atheist Republic, and a very vocal advocate for out of the closet atheism. By Larry Ladd Casper Rigby, where were you fifty years ago when I was attempting to sort all this Christian myth out? Believe it or not I was a church musician who loved playing the organ but had immense struggles (torment) with believing church doctrine. The question I wrestled with was "how can I be a church musician and yet NOT a "believer?" I finally sorted it all out after many years of studying and searching: Eventually I left church music AND the church behind and have never looked back nor regretted my decision. A book like "Holy S***: The Insanity of Blind Belief" would have been awesome to have had during my "belief crisis." This book was wonderfully written and a fun read. Thanks, Mr. Rigby, for your insight. I especially liked the kind way you ended the book in urging others to reason through the christ myth and "let it go." To sorta quote Martin Luther King: Free at last! Free at last, thank ME! I'm free at last." Thanks again. Larry

It's good to se By Neal I was introduced to Casper's works via Atheist Republic reading his articles/blogs and always felt he was talking softy to an audience that may be questioning the faith they may or may not have, but also has an objective point of view on the topics. His knowledge of the bible is right up there with theologians; however, is able to remove the faith blinders and scrutinize scriptures for what they are. His ability to make one critically think and apply logic to what most theist have never questioned is wonderful. It's good to see him expand his writing and take on the challenge of writing books and look forward to more.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. I want to move to Deer Creek! By Reader 57 Karin Richardson's first mystery in what promises to be a three part series was a great read! It kept my interest to the very end. The plot moved quickly, the dialog was realistic, and the ending wrapped all the loose ends in a satisfying finale. When narrator, Ruth Ann accidentally witnesses a bank robbery, her safe, predictable life in small town Deer Creek, Colorado turns into a wild ride filled with twists and turns, eventually leading to the seedy piers of Stockholm Sweden. Ruth Ann is a very believable character, a feisty widow who values her family above all else. After the robbery, Ruth Ann discovers that she has inherited a priceless aquamarine necklace--a necklace MANY wish to possess. By the end of the book, I wanted to see that necklace as much as Ruth Ann did! I really enjoyed the way the author introduced new characters at critical points in the story. Was Ben faking his impediment? Was Bertha evil or misguided? How about Inga and Prunella? I never knew which character was a key to the mystery and which a dead end until the author revealed it. I look forward to Book 2. I hope the author develops Ruth Ann's life in Deer Creek and especially her relationships with Doug and John as the series unfolds. Until then, I anxiously await my chance at winning my own Blue Ice!Note to the author's editor: Minor grammatical errors throughout the book, in both the dialog and the narrative distracted from my enjoyment of the story. A more thorough proofreading in Book 2 would really improve the text.

Do not think you can start here and have any idea what the heck is going on.Second...it's not a story. It has many of the elements of a story, but it also has a lot of holes. This is more backstory than story. Introducing characters and filling in their history. There just isn't a strong plot tying it together. There is a theme - young men finding their calling - but it is very loose.I love this world. I love the writing. But I cannot simply point at this book and say "You have to read this" so it's not 5-star, and without the full support of the books before it is almost unreadable, so it can't be 4.I will be buying whatever the next book is as soon as it is released.

Colene does not know what to think of the stranger she has rescued. Darius tells her he has traveled from "his reality" to find her. In proving to Colene that other worlds do exist, he uses up the power of the artifact that would allow them to travel back to his universe. They must try a slower, more dangerous method: the creation of a four-dimensional universe. Darius picks five anchor points in five different universes to set up a skew path, a "Virtual Mode," on which the anchors can walk. Thus begins a tale of romance, danger, adventure, and intrigue as the two travel through a myriad of alternate realities where anything is possible.

Virtual Mode (Mode Series), by Piers Anthony

Amazon.com Review The first book in the Mode series, in which a man and woman from two alternate worlds face love and danger across time and space.

From Publishers Weekly Darius, a Cyng of Hlahtar, has traveled to earth in order to meet his true love, a suicidal teen named Colene, and bring her back to his universe. But in proving to her that other worlds exist, Darius uses up the power of the artifact that would have permitted them to travel, and they must try a slower, more dangerous method: the creation of a four-dimensional universe. Darius picks five anchor points in five different universes to set up a skew path, a Virtual Mode, which the anchors can walk upon. The anchor points, it turns out, are people: Darius, Colene and three others. With this fresh, imaginative device, Anthony ( Macroscope ) inaugurates a new series, in which each volume will feature anchor persons lost and gained, shifting the skew path which the others are traversing and bringing new universes into play. Colene, according to an author's note here, is a composite of several teenagers who corresponded with Anthony; whatever her genesis, she is a clearly defined character, virtues, flaws and all, and is brought fully to life in this skillful, enjoyable book. Copyright 1991 Reed Business Information, Inc.

From School Library Journal YA-- In classic fairy-tale tradition, Anthony tells the story of the love between royalty and a commoner. Darius, unhappy ruler of the magical kingdom of Hlanter, finds himself drawn to Colleen, a 14-year-old suicidal depressive, the product of an alcoholic mother and philandering father. Through circumstance, the two are separated and must overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles as they cross various dimensions striving to be reunited. Virtual Mode is Anthony at his best, combining strong, multidimensional characters with a fascinating story line. A well-written first book in a new series. --John Lawson, Fairfax County Public Library, VACopyright 1991 Reed Business Information, Inc.

Not for me, but not intended to be, either By Stephen Haley As a longtime fan of Piers Anthony, I wasn't overly impressed with this book, or the remainder of the series (although I haven't read it all yet, and I do intend to finish it). I didn't feel drawn into the characters, and the story itself didn't enthrall me. However, this may be mainly because I am not the target audience for this series; judging by other reader reviews I have read, adolescent females feel a very strong bond to the lead character, and the book seems to touch thier emotions on a very personal level. I feel this is one of Anthony's strengths, the ability to write very specifically to his audience, and reach them completely, even if this lowers the appeal for others. If you are not an adolescent female, or have not been one, this may not be the book for you. However, it may provide some insight into what motivates and interests today's female youth.

11 of 11 people found the following review helpful. A Darkly Glorious Book That Pulls Few Punches By Amanda M. Hayes I sympathize with the reviewer who said that the first few pages of _Virtual Mode_ turned them off of the book. I was given this novel as a gift when I was about eleven or so; I, too, read the opening passage and was disturbed into putting the book away, not touching it again for another year. Yet once I really began to read it, I found myself drawn into a grim reality where even the wonders of magic cannot compensate for the horrors of the human psyche.I adore the protagonists: Colene, the mentally and emotionally twisted young woman whose attitudes and perceptions have been skewed almost beyond recognition; Darius, a man whose rigid sense of honor threatens to strangle his chances of happiness; Seqiro, Prima, and all the rest. Their conflicts and challenges may not be the stuff of epic fantasy, but they're interesting and can give one food for thought. Most moving of all, at least for me, was the exploration of Colene's emotions, history, and motivations. Anthony doesn't whitewash her situation: she's a deeply disturbed individual, and one who has cause to be that way.I must admit, though, that as much as I love this book, I couldn't recommend that children--or possibly adolescents--read it without reservations. The folk who've said that it's full of sex are right; further, there's blood, vulgarity, remembered rape, and a host of other such things. While they add to the power of the story, they might (or might not) be considered inappropriate for younger readers. I doubt my mother would have gotten it for me when she did had she known what it was really about... but then, I didn't have any problems understanding it and certainly wasn't traumatized by it.It's also true that the heroine is awfully young for all of the sexual situations she gets into, and that one could see the portrayal of women as sexist if one really wanted to do so. I personally read and enjoyed the story without worrying about such things, but I think that anyone who says _Virtual Mode_ shows sexism just may have a point. (Anthony *has* begun to disturb me in recent years with his fixation on the sexiness of very, very young women, but that's a subject better reserved for a Xanth review.) If such things offend you, you may wish to give this a skip.Otherwise, I can say with enthusiasm that I feel _Virtual Mode_ to be a wonderful novel, one whose story and characters have stayed with me for years. Readers who enjoyed Anthony's Incarnations of Immortality series may find this one especially appealing, as its resemblance to that saga seems much more pronounced than any to the perpetually punny Xanth.

Colene is one of the most realistic characters that I have ever encountered in my life. Her pain and suffering are something that I can relate very well. For those that think that the things that happen to her doesn't happen in real life, well I have bad news for you, they do happen too often for my taste. Rape, depression, suicide, dyfuntional families, etc... are part of the reality of many people right now. Horrible to hear but truth, but what makes Virtual and its main character so humane and wonderful is her spirit to fight in adversity, even though she still is depressed and want to die. Also the world of the Virtual Mode is amazing!! Piers really create a world full of multitude of realities.I can't wait for DoOon Mode, the last novel, to know what will happen to Colene and Darius!! I really want them happy!!I think this is the best series that Piers has written. And it is not a surprise considering that most of the inspiration of Colene come from real life suicidal teenage girls, asking him for help.So if you haven't started reading this series, do so!! You will never regretted it.

1 of 2 people found the following review helpful. A good introduction By D. Locicero A concise and accurate, albeit very simplistic, introduction to container gardening. Being primarily a traditional gardener (and no expert at that!) I found this book to be good for whetting my appetite but lacking in enough information to really get me started. Having just finished it, I'm actually about to google container gardening, check a couple of online sites, and look for more specific information about plant choices, soil mixtures, drainage, organic fertilizer amounts, etc. What is given here was very practical and helpful information, just too general to really answer my specific (although I thought fairly basic) questions.
