All the other maps out there cover the states with landmarks and animals so my daughter thinks we're going to see buffalo or such. Thank you Rand McNally!

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Loved it but needs a spell checker/proofreader. By Lisa I purchased this for my 5 year old for a recent road trip up the east coast. It helped preoccupy her, and she loved having an atlas like mommy's. Some of the activities were a little harder for her, but that is because she is 5 and just starting to read. Though I was very happy with the atlas, it lost a star for misspelling two towns that I noticed. One I noticed because I used to live in the town. Others that don't know may be learning the spelling or pronunciation based on those misspellings.

17 of 17 people found the following review helpful. Learning Multiplied By Melanie Gilbert In my elementary school years, we had to learn our multiplication tables in 1st grade. It was the old rote-and-drill method with the teacher shouting out the factors and selecting some hapless victim for the answer - some of whom were only 6 years old.Educators would probably cringe at that approach today. Standards are different now, too, with the basics of multiplication not being introduced until the last half of 3rd grade. School Zone follows that timeframe with this grades 3 - 4 workbook.There's no reason, though, that kids can't begin the easier multiplication facts of 1, 2, 5 and 10 by 2nd grade. The School Zone worksheets start with the multiplication facts of number 1 until the number 12. You can tear out the perforated sheets in the sequence that works best for your learner.The overall structure of this introductory workbook is consistent and comprehensive. Each page gives an example of the products and factor being studied, an orderly math facts exercise (1x1, 1x2, 1x3, etc.), followed by a random set of 10 problems within that series. Review pages ask the student to complete a grid or a puzzle search or a challenging number wheel to further reinforce the numbers.School Zone offers a pretty tough 60-page workout. Your young learner will be challenged to multiply 3 factors, answer story problems, complete product charts and take timed tests. The section on division follows the same format.Terrific graphics and an uncluttered layout multiplies the learning opportunties.

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Disappointed by the Lack of Variation By Jordan M I was definitely disappointed by this book. The pages are mostly just straight times tables with very few activities. I also don't like that different numbers are clumped together. For example, the 6 times table and the 7 times table are on the same page, so to use it for students who haven't learned the 7 times table yet, I have to fold it in half. This book only has 30 pages, so there's just not a lot of variation in the format of the pages.

About the Author Kristine Forney has been a member of the Music History/Musicology faculty at California State University, Long Beach, since 1978. She specializes in Renaissance music, is a performer and teacher of historical instruments, and is the author of numerous scholarly articles exploring diverse facets of Renaissance musical life and practices. She has taught music appreciation to thousands of undergraduate students, and has been an author of The Enjoyment of Music since 1988.Andrew Dell'Antonio is Distinguished Teaching Professor of Music at the University of Texas at Austin. Winner of the University of Texas Regents' Outstanding Teaching Award, he teaches courses in musical historiography, feminist/queer theory, and cultural studies. Dell'Antonio is a specialist in musical repertories of early modern Europe, and his recent work investigates topics as diverse as postmodern modes of hearing and changing listening practices in the early Italian Baroque.The late Joseph Machlis was professor of music at Queens College of the City University of New York. Among his many publications are Introduction to Contemporary Music (Norton) and singing translations for many operas.

By Unhappy student I was required to have this book for my music appreciation class. I have not been impressed with the customer support for this book. The StudySpace for this edition on the Norton website says it is to launch in May but as of 5/30/2015 it has not. There is no option to only purchase studyspace so you are forced to pay $50 for all access which at least includes an e-book for that price. I would strongly recommend not buying this book used or renting unless you will not need to puchase StudySpace for your class but if you like e-textbooks, purchasing all access on the website might save you some money.

By Linda Day I bought the "shorter edition" for a class because I was trying to save money with a paperback. This is NOT the same book at the hardcover! I regretted my purchase by the end of the first class -- the paperback shorter edition is missing so much interesting material from the full-length edition, that you just don't get a good picture of the material being covered. It is like reading only crib notes -- the "flesh" that would give meaning to the whole is missing. So I am selling it back to Amazon (thereby losing a bunch of money because I bought it new) and buying a used hardcover. I'll use my secret code to access the online files for the shorter edition, and for other selections, well, there's Spotify.Rather than coming with CDs, this book comes with a website and a code to log on to hear the selections. Of course, if you buy a used book, you don't get this, although you can buy it separately.Outside of the shorter edition being a waste of money (for me), I think the book is wonderfully well organized with great illustrations. I'm looking forward to the hardback version.

For years, I have sought out the definitive collection of information technology books to enrich my already existing IT knowledge. These books made it possible by showing me the exact same information that the IT professionals study to get their certifications. The books here, which cover A+, Network+, and Security+, are perfect reads on each topic and are masterfully written by some of the top minds in technology. The only downside I found to the books was they were written for people with at least some knowledge (absolute noobs may be left in the dust on some topics) but, with a little assistance, you will grasp the information, just was with writing a bike.

Banning Eyre ties the arc of Mapfumo's career to the history of Zimbabwe. The genre Mapfumo created in the 1970s called chimurenga, or "struggle" music, challenged the Rhodesian government—which banned his music and jailed him—and became important to Zimbabwe achieving independence in 1980. In the 1980s and 1990s Mapfumo's international profile grew along with his opposition to Robert Mugabe's dictatorship. Mugabe had been a hero of the revolution, but Mapfumo’s criticism of his regime led authorities and loyalists to turn on the singer with threats and intimidation. Beginning in 2000, Mapfumo and key band and family members left Zimbabwe. Many of them, including Mapfumo, now reside in Eugene, Oregon.
