About the Author Josh Langston writes books which amuse, anger, enlighten and entertain. He regularly mines history for background material that's little known but reliably fascinating. His plots are complex, interconnected and layered with humor and suspense; his characters are rarely predictable, and even his bad guys tend to be both engaging and diabolical. A graduate of Georgia State University with a degree in journalism, Josh's writing tastes quickly shifted away from reportage. His fiction has been published in a variety of magazines and anthologies, and he currently has two short story collections in the Amazon top 20 for genre fiction. Thrice nominated for Georgia Author of the Year by the Georgia Writer's Association, Josh has branched out more recently into contemporary thrillers and currently has seven such titles on the market along with an historical fantasy trilogy set in the 1st century BC, plus a handful of short story collections. Johnson Having read most of Josh Langston's fiction and his excellent D-I-Y book on writing, Write Naked!: The Secrets of Dynamic Prose Laid Bare (Working Naked) (Volume 1), I had to grab the Kindle version of this book as soon as it came out. It kept me glued to my iPad, to the edge of my wife's patience. Langston deftly intertwined related stories occurring more than 10,000 years apart, maintaining the tension of both stories by cutting back and forth at just the right spots. His characteristic wit and light touch were perfect for the modern story and he expertly dialed back the tone of the prehistorical story to a more suspenseful life-or-death-struggle mood. And there was romance, too, of the young and not-so-young varieties. I hate to pick favorites, but I think this is my favorite Langston novel to date.

By Alice Carnahan I really didn't mean to read this whole book right away - but once I began, I was drawn into the characters and the plot. The rest of the book did not disappoint! The "old" characters from 12000 years ago enchanted me, and with their story Langston did a great job of showing people with flaws overcoming their disabilities. I enjoyed the 12000 year old story more than the contemporary one, but the modern day one was OK too. Good job of telling the story from different points of view. "Whisper" is a fast and enthralling read, and I give it my highest compliment - it made me care about the characters. One tiny niggling complaint: would like to have seen what happened to Slink.

Josh Langston heard a whisper across 12,000 years and translated it into the parallel stories of Two Spears and Meadow, circa 10,000 B.C., and Charlie and Mazie, here and now. Readers of Langston's previous books know they are in for a headlong ride with occasional side-romps, and The 12,000-year-old Whisper delivers. From Slink, the giant swamp cat who's afraid of thunderstorms to the discovery of a cavern filled with prehistoric paintings, this page-turner will keep you up well past your bed-time.
