If you are prepared to hurl yourself into adventure, to face peril with a brave heart, to risk all, then the marvelous world of Kregen offers you everything you have ever dreamed. For Dray Prescot the challenges are enormous. His task is to unite the sub-continent of Balintol against the Shanks, but the megalomaniac striving for power of various factions looks set to send Balintol up in flames. Scourge of Antares Prescot has uncovered some of the details of a plot by the cultists of the religion of Dokerty to turn ordinary men and women into receptacles for demons, who then destroy wantonly until the frail human body can no longer support the intolerable demonic forces. Now he has escaped from the Dokerty temple with a mysterious young woman, Veda. They are fleeing for their lives as the Suns of Scorpio descend into night... Challenge of Antares Born in 1775, Dray Prescot joined the Royal Navy as a boy when his father died from the sting of a scorpion, and his mother followed soon after. Life in Nelson's Navy, harsh, intolerant, formed and molded him. He has been consistently passed over for promotion, even though he has fought his way from the lower deck through the hawsehole to the quarterdeck. He considers himself a failure. Just recently he has been experiencing unsettling dreams... Wrath of Antares The rulers of the countries of Balintol, and the people trying to usurp them, appear to care only for their own ambitions. Having saved the Illusionist of Winlan and preserved the Wall that retains the demon monsters created by Khon the Mak's Dokerty priests, Prescot now realizes to his profound horror that the phantom of his wife Delia he saw buried by falling rock was no apparition... Includes a glossary of the entire Balintol cycle.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Sword Sorcery splintered a Demonic Scheme By Harry A Pierce Sword Action Adventuring Clues, Claws & CorruptorsScourge of Antares.Fast 4 read. Dray Prescot tries to muffle his 'yrium' and stumbles/bumbles into fraught action filled with wicked clues and powers while facing corruptors of the mortal soul whose powers seem to bedevil the 'Everoinye'. First lesson, stifling your true nature leads most often to disappointments, while succoring your inclinations tends to have satisfactions, but often does NOT meet the new needs as agent (Kregoinye) of the Star Lords. Telling tale with a tad too swift movement at times. Alas, no lingering or malingering for the hero or for the fan. The Clues 'explode' the adventure trails and release more mysteries. Very recommended, especially for Prescot fans. What is illusion really? Thanks, Harry!Sword Sorcery Suspended in IllusionChallenge of AntaresFast 5 read. Dray Prescot is in quest of very powerful magical devices which plant demons in the souls of the Innocent. He is captured in a country barricaded behind a magical wall and suddenly starts reliving his past life on Earth. When freed from illusions he finds himself supporting the local powers to avert releasing both the 'demon horrors' and the restless warriors of the country. Exciting sword play, and action with enough twists to put knots in your logic. Akers "Bulmer" shows his mastery of writing with the opening chapters and the 'lost world' of Nelson and Napoleon. Some objection in both shortness of story and less expansive style than stories in the last of the DAW publications is easily explained by his writing to his new publisher's desires in Germany. At the very least it continues the epic storyline while filling in more of Kregen worldscape. Very highly recommend. Thanks, Harry!Sword action with Sorcerous FlamingsWrath of AntaresFast 5 read with lots of adventuring and new found places to tantalize the reader's world view. Dray must stop the Demon summonings and bend the leaders' wills to form an alliance against the Shanks. Lots of action, with very little rollicking, to humanize the story. The hero does NOT want to be there, doing the will of the Star Lords when he would rather be at home in his retirement with his wife. The best action was the very last and the Prescot all-star team led the way. With sorcerous and clerical help he battled his inhuman enemies to their demise and freed the peoples of Balintol from their horrors. Excellent glossary in the omnibus. Definitely a feel good ending and highly recommended. Thanks, Harry!Excellent omnibus hardback edition that will last years. Soon to be followed by a trade paperback omnibus. Thanks, Harry!
