If you thought that the story of our hero, an ex-CIA agent named Alex Cave, could not get better, you were completely wrong. The author keeps raising the bar, as if it was possible at all. The Alex Cave Series takes the reader to many intriguing places; especially this story. This is an excellent stand-alone novel and I'm looking forward to his next mysterious thriller.
About the Author James M. Corkill is a Veteran and retired Federal Firefighter from Washington State, USA. He was an electronic technician and studied mechanical engineering before eventually becoming a firefighter and retiring. He began writing in 1997, and was fortunate to meet a famous horror writer named Hugh B. Cave, who became his mentor. In 2002, he self-published a dozen copies of Dead Energy, just so his wife could see his book before she was taken by cancer. When his soul mate was gone, he stopped writing and began drinking heavily until 2013, when he met a stranger who recognized his name and had enjoyed an old copy of Dead Energy. When the stranger encouraged him to start writing again, he realized this chance meeting was just what he needed to hear at the right moment, and he quit drinking and began the rewrite of Dead Energy into The Alex Cave Series. He is now an award-winning author. His favorite television programs are the Science, History, and Discovery Channels. He subscribes to several science magazines, and he does extensive research for each of his stories to keep them as accurate and believable as possible.

This time, his main character, Alex Cave, is presented with another anomaly that draws him into intrigue in Iceland that quickly folds into a danger to the entire planet. True to Alex' nature, he can't resist being a modern age combination of MacGyver and Indiana Jones, with just a bit of James Bond thrown in for good measure. As with his Energy series, Corkill keeps the pace going and the surprises coming, making you wonder if anybody on Earth is going to live through this one. I completely enjoyed this book; it never left me hanging, but drug me along an adrenalin-pumping ride around the planet and into space. I almost needed a vacation by the time I was finished! Two enthusiastic thumbs up for still another great novel from this author!

Adventure Junkie By Yellow30SciFiReview This is the fourth in a series of stories starring Alex Cave, and the first I have had the opportunity to read. It is a satisfying Bruce Willis-type action-hero adventure romp in which the bad guy (in this case a woman) steals an alien artifact which the hero has been tasked to recover. This piece of alien technology can manipulate or generate gravity, and when the ne’re-do-well sets it up and turns it on, it causes the orbit of the moon to be altered, thus threatening the earth’s population through drastically altered tides. Couple to this JPL’s discovery of an odd space rock streaking toward Earth at a fantastic rate of speed, and the future of the people on the planet seems short indeed. It is left to our hero to try to recover the artifact and save the earth from its effects and the space rock, using an alien spaceship which he apparently found in an earlier tome, and which some friends of his have been trying ever since to figure out how to make work.This is a pretty well written story, albeit a typical action-hero romp. The premise and plot are certainly conceivable; after all, who knows what’s stashed at Area 51! The science and technology are plausibly believable, too; the author either has a background or has done his homework. The characterizations are handled well, despite several of the characters having been introduced in earlier episodes. Being the type of story that it is, it does have its fair share of death-defying events involving different characters during the course of the action. Some of these for me were believable, but some not so much. And the relationship I kept rooting for was that of Alex and his love-interest, Fala, who doesn’t like what Alex does as a side job, and can’t understand why he’s such an adventure junkie.On the whole, this is a job well done. The author came up with an easily believable story line and pulled it off nicely. I’m even thinking about checking out the first three episodes soon to see what leads up to this one. Read it, and enjoy! — David Reynolds

Corkill’s novel, Gravity, book 4 in the Alex Cave Series, will keep you breathlessly turning pages as protagonist Alex Cave, a geophysicist, and his best friend, Okana investigate an unusual geological study reported to Alex by the Director of the Nordic Volcanological Center. In Iceland, at the end of one of the volcanoes’ ancient lava tubes, Alex and Okana discover an alien device that can make havoc with gravity.Back at home in Montana, Alex, whose day job is a college professor, has a very annoyed live in girlfriend, Fala, who has had it with Alex’s mysterious disappearances. It seems that Alex works on the side as a secret agent for the CIA and other covert government agencies, which Fala knows little to nothing about.On this new mission the world is literally dependent on Alex and Okana’s success or else Armageddon will be upon us.With an easy-to-read writing style in the third person narrative, James M. Corkill’s newest edition to The Alex Cave Series won’t disappoint fans. And don’t worry about missing the other three books in the series.
