When young d'Artagnan travels to Paris to join the ranks of the Musketeers, he soon finds himself challenged to three duels with Athos, Porthos and Aramis. However, the foursome is abruptly attacked by the evil Cardinal Richelieu's guards, and d'Artagnan fights alongside them, proving his skills with a sword and his honour. The three Musketeers enfold d'Artagnan into their ranks, and what follows is a swashbuckling tale full of intrigue, friendship and revenge. Alexandre Dumas got the idea for The Three Musketeers from Courtilz de Sandras' 1700 novel Mémoires de Monsieur d'Artagnan, which was based on real events surrounding the lives of d'Artagnan, Athos, Porthos and Aramis. Dumas made them human, gave them colour, and made them more real than even the truth itself. Since then the term 'Three Musketeers' has been used to describe a trio of individuals who support each other including Supreme Court Justices, engineers and Japanese wrestlers.

This is something that I certainly read when I was growing up, and my kids, in turn, need to be educated in world classical literature. I read a different edition myself, but this one does not disappoint. All of the characters are still intact like Dumas wrote it many centuries ago. The book has still kept everything, starting from plot, to minor details in it, no change. This is a classical story and a mandatory read, really, to any teen and adolescent to learn about history, and brave souls, love and betrayal, peace and friendship. What can I say, part of my whole world is build by this book. One for all, and all for one. This book will definitely make it to my top 100 best books ever written. I could talk about its plot, but I am no scholar of The Three Musketeers, and my knowledge of all plot and story turns has been fading away with years, but I know that this book is timeless, easy to read, teaches passion and compassion, and will give you lots of ideas to think about and imagine as you are reading the book to think and see with your own eyes what life was like in France for a group of brave musketeers. If you have never read it before, this is the time to catch up. If you have read the book, you will agree that telling about the story will take a while, it is quite a big book in size, with lots of colorful images, details, and storylines. Hope you can enjoy the book just like I did, I give this book 5 stars!

Badertscher There's no point in "reviewing" Dumas' The Three Musketeers - it's an obvious classic, and this is a standard translation of the work. So I'll comment on the presentation. This is the only 99 cent version of this book that I've seen for Kindle that had actual *editing* done to it! It is well laid out, and includes numerous appropriate illustrations. The only problem is that some of the formatting doesn't quite look right. The all-caps text appears tiny and some of the illustration titles use a peculiar mix of fonts that occasionally appear larger or smaller than normal text. It's a minor problem, but it can be distracting.I'm not positive, but I suspect the source text for this is the free Project Gutenberg version. However, unlike most of the cheap Kindle editions that merely copy and paste the text from Project Gutenberg, the editor who created this ebook took the time to convert ALL CAPS to italics, spent some time formatting it, and added illustrations. It also has the coolest looking cover of any Kindle edition of The Three Musketeers. The Penguin Classics edition has better editing and presentation, but it's $13. For 99 cents, this Kindle edition is well worth it. Certainly more worth it than every other 99 cent version I've sampled, and it's definitely better than the free Amazon Services edition.Recommended!
