Beyond the Arabian Gulf, the island of Bahrain is a mystery. Most readers would have read about it because of its pearls and oil, but not much more. Having lived here for fifteen years, I have experienced the country, explored its momentous history, and known what had turned it into the epicenter of a conflict that rocked the tiny nation. Those lessons and knowledge have led to the birth of my book, “Land of Two Seas.” Although a work of fiction, it has been woven around facts. Facts, that in all likelihood, you have never read about. On 19th October 1940 four air-crafts of the Italian Air Force attack the tiny desert kingdom of Bahrain in the Arabian Gulf. Carried out shortly after it joins World War 2 alongside Germany, Italy’s intended target was the American oil refinery in the British Protectorate. Britain’s Middle East Command in Cairo and its War Office in London are shaken as much by the audacity of the air raid as by the prospect of an enemy collaborator on the island. Perplexing incidences of violence in Aden Protectorate and Southern Arabia point toward Italy’s covert presence in the region. Could it be a grand design of the Italian dictator Benito Mussolini, who has already declared himself a reincarnation of Caliph Omar, to bring the Middle East under his fold? Radio messages intercepted by Middle East Command could mean only such an eventuality. In the cloak and dagger game that unfolds in the desert sands of Arabia, the deceptively peaceful island of Bahrain and a princely state in far off India, war-weary Britain comes to rely on the wit and courage of one man- its secret agent Gilgamesh. But will he be able to deliver the region from the evil hands of the scheming enemy? Read for yourself to find out - Land of Two Seas

The story is very original about a part of the second world war which is totally unknown to me. The plot is very believeable, the background detail of life in these times and places is well researched and superbly described. It recounts Italy's expansionist aims through the early years of WW2 woven around a story line of spies, intrgue and who-dunnit.This was a very enjoyeable read from an author who knows his stuff.

Multiple incidents at multiple places involving multiple characters and slowly the mesh being woven. And then masterfully, backed by in depth research I am sure, the plot is unraveled, giving you a glimpse of that period, the geography, the people, the culture, the influences and most importantly, the humanness of each character ... all against the backdrop of World War II. At one point, I checked to see whether this is a historical account. So realistic the plot appears. The author deserves accolades for keeping the language simple, liberally sprinkling with native expressions to lend the right context, taking care to explain them and move forward the story at a steady pace.A place so strategic as Persian Gulf is sure to have a rich history and what better way to draw attention than to conjure up a great plot around that place, and weave a story around it. Read and you shall enjoy.

By essgee ...it has been a long time since I read a novel delivered in the good old-fashioned ‘yarn’ style of the storyteller... Chandan Sen Gupta weaves his narrative around a consummate knowledge of the terrain and backdrop of Bahrain... the authenticity of the geography to those who know the island lends a sense of reality... coupled with a wartime escapade involving secret agents and conflicting Axis and Allies adversaries, the local ‘feel’ is wrapped into the plot... as a lad, I was enthralled with the tales of the likes of Biggles and other such characters... ‘LAND OF TWO SEAS” catapulted me back into that age instantly... with enough twists and turns to keep the reader page-turning until the end, a most enjoyable read...
