The newly settled life of Commander Celia Kelly suffers when a seemingly routine flight out of Nairobi becomes an unlikely catalyst. The Deputy Director of the CIA goes missing in Africa. His bags make the plane and he doesn't. In the meantime, an imposter with an agenda takes another man's seat on that same plane for a free trip into the United States. Husband Tom Kelly becomes a NICS Special Agent looking into Lieutenant Commander Georgie Round's death. The two investigations separate Celia and Tom as they both go to work to solve the two mysteries. As the mission begins in Africa, the FBI begins an investigation into the mysterious passenger now somewhere in the United States to determine why he is there and what or who his target is. The FBI, NCIS, Commander Kelly, and the Navy SEALs are set on a collision course. With the help of an old opponent from the Pact, CIA operative William Dixon, they come together only to be shocked by what no one sees coming. Distance tests the Kelly's and they must rely on their faith to see them through. Will their relationship survive what they are about to discover?

In this installment, Celia is given the task by General Turner to find and rescue his son who is the deputy director of the CIA. Of course, all information on his whereabouts and his purpose for being in Africa is hard to come by and always suspect. There are moles planted within the CIA and elsewhere that need to be identified and neutralized. Celia and SEAL Team Six are sent on this mission with a lot of unknowns. Celia also is missing her husband as she ends up being away much longer than she thought and is only able to contact him occasionally by phone.Meanwhile, stateside, Tom Kelly, Celia’s husband, is now working for NCIS in the Cold Case Unit. His first case is the murder of Georgie Round, Celia’s assistant. Tom and his partner begin their investigation and soon stumble across several murders that seem to be connected. Was Georgie killed by a serial killer? As they continue tracking clues, something doesn’t add up. Tom misses Celia terribly, looking forward to her next phone call. Tom begins to wonder if Georgie was working on a covert mission when she was killed. Was she killed in the line of action or did she stumble upon a serial killer and became his next victim? This will be one book readers won’t be able to put down. There is constant action that alternates between Tom’s investigation and Celia’s mission. The tension to see how things on both fronts are resolved is riveting. I also really like how Celia is such a strong witness for God and prays before and during each mission with her SEAL team. Her living her faith openly and boldly points others towards God. Gwen Sherwood is a hoot and I really enjoy her role in these stories. This is a series with a continuing story from book to book, so I recommend beginning with book one The Pact, then continuing with book two and three, The Lie and The Truth, respectively before reading this fourth book. This is definitely a series to add to readers’ personal libraries.

By Gail Welborn "The Disappearance", book four of CN Bring's exciting Celia Kelly series follows Tom and Celia's separate action-packed accounts until the story merges into with an ending no one can see coming. Yet I shouldn't have been surprised after reviewing "The Pact" Bring's first book in the series, when I found her to be a rare new talent who writes unpredictable mystery suspense, with characters and plot lines that demand to be read in one sitting. In "The Disappearance" Celia is assigned an overseas mission to find and rescue the deputy director of the CIA who happens to be General Turner's son. It also means a separation from her husband Tom, now an NCIS Special cold case Agent "looking into Lieutenant Commander Georgia Round's" murder. The story opens with a homeless man, "soaked to the bone" after one of Washington D.C.'s" longest wet spells. When he "notices a fire in a barrel" under the Potomac Park walking bridge he moves quickly, grateful to find a place to "warm up and stop shivering from the plummeting, wind-chilled temperatures."Minutes later, rubbing his hands briskly together above the flames, he basks in the warmth and wonders why he's the only one there. He knows there are many like himself, homeless, cold, wet and miserable on the Washington, D.C. streets. Yet the area is dark and deserted except for him and the flickering flames. His shivers calmed with the warmth and he examined the barrel from his vantage point above the flames. That's when he saw the bony fingers of a "skeletal hand" in the flickering flames below. He stepped back and saw what looked like pieces of a "Navy uniform" melted onto the side of the barrel. Shocked he stumbled backward and fell, "catching himself with his hands." Only to find his right hand resting on a military "ID badge" with the name, "Lieutenant Commander Georgie Round, US Naval Internal Affairs" engraved on it.Thus begins a compelling and complex military murder mystery with more questions than answers until the final pages are turned and Celia and Tom's parallel storylines merge into one. The result is an action-packed story of imposters, moles and treason involving the FBI, the CIA and naval intelligence that keeps pages turning rapidly with a story that can be read as a series or as a stand-alone title.Prayer and the characters dependence on God is a realistic thread that weaves through the faith-based mystery without being intrusive or preachy. While the SEAL teams quips and funny stories add a light touch of humor, often in extreme circumstances.CN Bring's character-driven military suspense, "The Disappearance" is penned by an author of multiple awards from ABA’s Literary Excellence for Mystery/Suspense, to International Books and the Wise Bear Books for military mystery. In addition to being known as one of Amazon's bestseller's of Christian Mystery Suspense and Christian Collections and Anthologies. Bring is not a writer to miss, especially for anyone who likes the NCIS style television series.'The Disappearance: The Celia Kelly Mystery Series,' #4, by CN Bring, Bad Day Books, 2015, 326 Pages, 978-1628279917, $15.95

That being said, I was also disappointed with "The Disappearance." It pains me to only give it a 3 star rating. It seems as though Ms. Bring was in a huge hurry to write this book and made it much more confusing than I think it needed to be. Yes, there are many characters, some new, most old friends from the first three books, and quite a few government agencies involved in this one; however I found myself having to back up and re-read large amounts of previously read pages to keep everyone and everything straight. At the same time, she didn't give the people in this book, both old and new, the depth of the of character she had done in the previous books. I felt this hugely detracted from really caring about some of the main characters here, Celia's husband Tom being the main one I'm referring to.There were a large amount of typos in this 4th book as well, and while it didn't stop me from reading it, it became very annoying as the book went on, and it certainly could have used better editing!I AM looking fotward to the next book in the series!!If you're anxious to read the continuing saga of Commander Kelly, her Seal Team and the mission they're on, then please, don't let this review hinder you! I'd be interested to read what others think of it too!
