About the Author John Ballard is professor of management at Mount St. Joseph University in Cincinnati, Ohio. A United States Air Force Academy graduate, during his years as an officer he reinvented Air Force management consulting saving taxpayers millions of dollars. Dr. Ballard earned a M.A. degree at the University of Southern Mississippi and his Ph.D. at Purdue University. He began his academic career at the Air Force Institute of Technology, the graduate school of the U.S. Air Force. He has served on the management faculty at Wittenberg University, Springfield, Ohio, and Miami University of Ohio, and taught for Central Michigan University's Global Campus.  In 2013 Cincy Magazine honored him as one of Cincinnati's Outstanding Educators.A management scholar with over 50 papers and presentations, he has received multiple awards and served on the editorial board of one of the most influential publications in management education, the Academy of Management Learning & Education journal. He shares practical implications of academic research through his blog, "Leadership, Management, and Life in the Workplace," at johnballardphd.com and tweets at @johnballardphd.

Quite simply, there are no other books out there that spell out the lessons that most of us waste valuable time learning by experience. It is also straightforward and easy to read and digest... A new graduate will definitely have a tremendous return on their very brief time investment in reading the book... Highly recommended!

From factory, floor to tallest tower, this book has somethings in it for all.Easy read, with bullet points of the key notes of the book. Many points in the the book are "duh, I know that' moments but then he gives a real life scenario and you say ' ah now I get it.'I was concerned that it may be too 'text booky' coming from a college professor, but I found it an good read and informative.iain m kelly, B.Sc., O.D.

Practical guide for understanding the workplace By karrows As a career coach and outplacement counselor, I found this book to be relevant and practical for those in the workplace or who are transitioning into a different career or job opportunity. Many of the 50 keys are highlighted by examples of situations that, in my experience, are realistic as well as those that provide insight into why things happen as they do.
