Outlaw Josey Wales in Space By John Green, NCGBT ***Disclaimer: I received a free copy in exchange for a review.***The blurb's kinda light, so here's a little more: Cody, an ex-soldier scraping his way through the solar system as a bounty hunter, stumbles upon what could be a life-changing mission when he learns a prolific Reaper (assassin) is about to make a kill in a location not so far away... and he's the only one who can stop her.First in a new serialized fiction series, it's off to a rough start, but has lots of potential. It suffers from the typical bumps of a self-pub: lots more telling than showing, some head hopping and more exposition than immersion.Cody moves through a world of space frontierism, which is fine, except it's so minimally touched upon you barely know what's going on. You get more on Cody's backstory- which could've been saved for later installments- than the society he's inhabiting and how it functions. And what you do get is infodumped to give just enough to go on before getting back to the inner monologues. The authors also play a little fast and loose with the time frame when he needs to get from one place to another. The confrontation between Cody and Amanda, the Reaper he's hunting, is a nice little action sequence but then falls into a round of Dawson's Creek-style angst as the two adversaries share secrets about their lives. Our hero, Cody, after taking down a cold-blooded killer whom he knows will exact revenge the first chance she gets, is perfectly willing to divulge his entire personal history to her... God only knows what she'll do with the info. Smooth.Like an episode should, the ending leaves a teaser for future events. With a little tightening up, this one could be a contender.

Out here, he’s the only one capable of stopping her. In this fast-paced, short read that’s ideal for when you have some limited spare time but not too much, we learn more about Corlex and about the Reaper he captured. The world-building is off to a good start, as is the story. The world of Corlex seems intriguing enough, and I wanted to know more. The story picked up fast, and while it does offer some closure, it entices readers to grab the next installment and read on.The characterization wasn’t always perfect though, but since this is the first episode and the reader needs to be introduced to the characters, that’s a forgiveable and minor flaw.An enjoyable, fast read recommended to sci-fi fans. I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
