About the Author Susan Kaye Quinn is a rocket scientist turned speculative fiction author who now uses her PhD to invent cool stuff in books. Collins Susan's book really opened my eyes to all the opportunities that this career I've chosen has available. Her advice comes from not only her extensive experience in indie publishing but also a love for her fellow writers. I will be referring time and time again to the Indie Author Survival Guide as I climb the ladder of publishing. Thank you Susan for sharing your knowledge.

Pick up a copy of author friend Susan Kaye Quinn's Indie Author Survival GuideSusan has been kind enough to collate her experiences in one place, with tips on writing, marketing, and how to maintain a positive attitude.This book is stellar in explanation and a must have for both hobbyists and professional indie authors.Fresh for the evolving indie market, Susan has recently updated the guide to a Second Edition that is 25% longer than the First (which was already 300 pages).I could not stress how important this book is for your success.
4 of 5 people found the following review helpful. A Pep Talk, Not a Reference Book By I.M. Shai This reads like what it is--a collection of blog posts. There's a lot of common sense in here, and a lot this-worked-for-me, can't-promise-it-will-work-for-you type of stuff, but I wouldn't call it nuts-and-bolts practical. And I wouldn't even call it a "guide," rather a really long pep talk loaded with lots of "Hey did you read any of my fiction books yet?" advertising. And nearly every section includes parenthetical references to other sections or other books, as if this were an actual reference book. This made me feel like I was being pitched ideas, or maybe like the author was insisting that her information was helpful because, gosh, there's even *more* info in this other spot! I don't know anybody who would flip through an ebook to read a few more paragraphs on a subject when that info should have already been in the section the reader is already reading.Some folks may find this to be incredibly helpful/motivational, but I dreaded reading it after about 15%. At around 50% I resorted to skimming, hoping to find information that would actually be helpful and that wasn't readily available on every other indie author blog/website/FAQ.If you're looking for a success story to motivate you to write, read this. If you need someone to tell you that spamming Twitter and Facebook won't get you book sales, read this. If you love this author, read this. But, if you're writing a book, or wrote a book, and you're looking for actual "how to" information (things like copyright and fair use rules, do's and don'ts, contract help, etc.), skip this one.
