An essential resource for running a charity By TdK The only regret I have about this book is that it was not available when I was serving on the boards of small 501(c)(3) organizations over the past 30 years. As a compendium of potential pitfalls and best practices, chiefly concerning federal tax law, it should rapidly become an invaluable go-to resource for executives, administrators and directors of charities large and small. It is well-organized and specific enough to go directly to a special area of concern and readable enough to go cover to cover for an overview of the dos, don't-dos and be-extra-carefuls of life in the nonprofit world. Charitable Foundations is not cheap but, as the flyleaf notes, "staying out of trouble is far less costly than getting out of trouble."

About the Author

JOHN WOODHOUSE has been the principal of Moore Theological College in Sydney, Australia, since 2002 and previously was in pastoral ministry in a suburban Sydney church. He has a passion for teaching the Bible in a way that helps people understand the various parts of Scripture in light of the center of God's revelation, Jesus.

R. Kent Hughes (DMin, Trinity Evangelical Divinity School) is senior pastor emeritus of College Church in Wheaton, Illinois. He has authored numerous books for Crossway, including Disciplines of a Godly Man, and is the series editor and a contributor to the popular Preaching the Word series. Hughes is also a founder of the Charles Simeon Trust, which conducts expository preaching conferences throughout North America and worldwide. He now lives on the West Coast with his wife, Barbara, and is the father of four and grandfather of an ever-increasing number of grandchildren.

It's simple and easy to understand and it has all the recent discoveries and research results minus the hard work of translating research studies into simple information and knowledge. Great book to keep lying around on the coffee table or next to your bed. It's a great reference book for your health with a lot of creativity thrown in. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone looking to take all the small and big steps to staying young.

I'm the kind of writer who runs from the room when someone's peddling "the formula" for great storytelling. I love that my material comes to me, that I'm following characters as I'm drafting. Horowitz isn't interested in messing with my mo-jo. Rather, he's got a method here, a way of thinking and working through the material once it's roughed out on the page toward clarity and--best of all--depth. His process is organic to content (hallelujah). It's an inside-out model. Form follows not an overlay but questions that arise from the story itself. It turns out we can have our wild, out-of-the-box, left-field creativity and shape it too. I highly recommend these tools.

By EN Castelloe I was very lucky to hear Stuart lecture at the SDSU Writer's Conference. I can honestly say that I have never laughed so hard and learned so much in the same lecture. I immediately bought and read his first book: "Blueprint Your Bestseller." Then, when pre-release copies of "Book Architecture" became available, I bought and DEVOURED it. Both books are simply excellent and - like Stuart's lectures - combine hefty doses of humor and practical, immediately applicable writing advice. If you - like me - are tackling your first book, you may find it helpful to read "Book Architecture" before "Blueprint Your Bestseller," but both books will help you to hone your craft. By Amazon Customer I have been a fan of Stuart Horwitz since I read Blueprint Your Bestseller. BYB is a book that will change the way you think about writing. It was the first book that provided any meaningful advice on discovering and / or developing the theme of a story. BYB and Book Architecture focus on finding the strongest scenes, building the best narrative order, and uncovering what your “one thing” is.Both books demonstrate techniques for physically taking apart your story and laying it out to see what goes where and what goes...away. I modified the key points and created a digital version of the series grid. So far I really like it.Book Architecture is one of those books that I believe will improve my writing now, but will also continue to improve it in the future. I feel that each story I apply the Book Architecture method to will be stronger and cleaner in the end. This is not a formula. It takes work.I received an advanced reading copy, but halfway through the book, I just bought my own because the actual Kindle version is easier to navigate than the PDF and I really liked the method. Then I pulled Blueprint Your Bestseller to the front of my Kindle carousel for easier access as well.

Great multicultural friend book By August I had been looking for a good book for my toddler that explores people in all cultures and colors without suggestion (and with photos rather than drawings). I did not want a "we are different we are the same" kind of book because I didn't want her to wonder, why would anyone even think we're different (there must be something to that!)? So, I was looking for a book that showed lots of different people in lots of different backgrounds enjoying life. I found this one.My LO has grown out of "Global Babies" board book and is not yet old enough to enjoy "The Family of Man" which was a favorite of mine from about age 7 onwards (adults and children should definitely check it out!) So I tried this as an intermediary.LO is 22 months and while she enjoyed this book, I think it would be better for someone a little older or who at least is already in multi-child daycare or preschool. Most of the photos are of kids ages 7-13, a few seniors, a few dogs. On the other had, perhaps it helps introduce the concept of "friend." But, it very much had the feel I was going for in terms of a multicultural book.So, five stars for sending multiple good messages!I had checked this out from the library. We will renew it until I can find a book with kids more her age in it. Then, we will go back to this one when she is a bit older.

The best part of having and being a friend is having someone to share with. These pages are filled with wonderful photography. Author Barbara Kerley has always valued the importance of friendship. Readers will see first-hand by viewing the stunning images of what friends do together. Readers may even recognize similarities in some of the things they do and share with their friends or family. Short sentences put rhyme and focus to what readers will see, therefore connecting the vibrant photography to the meaning of friendship. For example, one image shows a young girl dressed in pink sharing an ice cream cone coated with sprinkles with a large white dog with black spots. Another image has three boys sliding down a muddy slide. The words turn the readers focus to friends being brave together. Another photo shows two girls sitting on the floor in the aisle at a library sharing a favorite book. There is lots to see and ponder.Author Barbara Kerley wants readers to see and feel what it means to have and be a friend no matter what you like to do. Yep, a private eye gets mixed up in coffee smuggling and on the targeted side of a vendetta. But he manages to save the day and those who love him. The story faintly reminded me of the Hitchhiker’s Guide To the Galaxy, though was less comedy and more action. The action does get slow at times, and I'd flnd myself wondering what the story was supposed to be about. However, each time that simply meant a wild plot twist was coming! The ending wraps things up sufficiently while leaving a hole big enough to drive a few sequels through.

I loved the characters, the story line.... everything about it. Some suspense, but more "fun" than anything. It mixes in genres I enjoy - detective stories, sci-fi stories and quite a bit of light-hearted humor.No sex, swearing or real violence, other than a bit of gore when the alien's heads exploded! There's a real strong emphasis of "do the right thing" and the importance of keeping your word - we don't see nearly enough of that these days.Being in the Seattle area, I can understand the alien's love for coffee I'm really looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

By Becka Marr This was a perfect book to entertain me on a rainy day in a remote mountain cabin. The short chapters and concise writing keep the story at a fast pace. Once again, I found myself laughing out loud (or at least gleefully grinning) - particularly at the antics of Toesy (Thanatos) and his new antagonist, Nick Miller. Having read Double Blind, I was familiar with most of the central characters to Wizzy Wig. But it's a very different story, and not necessary to read Double Blind to enjoy Wizzy Wig. Although I strongly recommend you also read Double Blind… because it's also terrific fun! Personally, I think both books have the potential to be adapted into wonderful Sci-Fi Comedy movies.

It was hilarious, fast-paced, and twisty as all get-out. I'm confident you can enjoy it without having read the first book.When I first encountered this series, to be honest, I was a little skeptical based on the series title "Thanatos Rising." Thanatos, it turns out, is a cat, better known to his owners, er, subjects, as Toesy. Toesy is the true hero of the book - just ask him - and tied for second are his friend and neighbor, the recently liberated sugar glider Pansy, and the human Kix - or, as Toesy calls her, the Angel of Delivery. When Kix brings Jack a pizza of unknown provenance, Jack, a sweet and clueless nerd who has a blistering crush on her, tries to impress her by using it in an experiment to test the applications of quantum physics in general and the "paradox" of Schrodinger's Cat in particular - or, in this case, Schrodinger's Pizza. This is the first novel I've ever encountered in which the Fateful Question is, will this pizza have jalapenos or not? Also the first where half of the Fateful Question gets eaten by an annoyed neighbor.Pitts' use of multiple loose third-person points of view allows her to bring her hilariously quirky voice to a wide variety of situations, and assemble a delightfully twisty plot. In the hands of a less writer, it might result in shallow characters, but she deftly conveys the emotions and personalities of her cast through their actions and where they focus their attention, with only the occasional dip into their thoughts. I may have to read the book again to figure out how she did that so well.

Simecek Toesy, the extra large cat with super powers,(otherwise known as Thanatos) is back with a new sidekick in this amusing sequel to Double Blind. Although it’s not imperative to read Double Blind first, it does help give the foundation of the characters, and explain Toesy’s powers. Not to mention it’s also a fun amusing book. Back to Wizzywig- Jake has messed up the universe big time while trying to impress Kix, the pizza delivery girl. Now she’s being stalked, and it’s up to Toesy and his new sidekick Pansy to save the day, and put all the pieces back together in their correct order. While it’s science fiction and most of what happens is (most likely) impossible, it’s so well written that you start to believe anything is possible! A fun and entertaining book.

5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Excellent and practical guide to fine Italian wines By PB2008 I've been getting this guide annually for about six years. The 2015 edition continues to be a really valuable resource on fine Italian wines. The book is organized by wine region roughly from northwest to southeast. Within each region there are what I'll call "main" listings and "other" listings.The main listings are the more prominent wineries. Each is a half-page with a background description whose content varies. It may contain notes on the winery, the producer, some of the new releases, or other related information. There is also a table of both current released wines and past wines with the ratings from 1 to 3 cups. I find these listings informative and a very helpful guide to selecting wines. It's important to read the text in addition to looking at the ratings. Sometimes it seems a wine that shows well at release (e.g. due partly to fruit) may get higher ratings than a well-structured wine that needs more time in bottle before it will show well.At the end of each region's section is the listing of "other" wineries. These listings are quite brief, perhaps 1/6 page each - I don't have the book in front of me to be exact. It expands the book's coverage nicely. If a winery is listed it seems likely to be a good one worth trying.The book also has a page of vintage ratings separated by wine regions that is unusually comprehensive and quite helpful in deciding whether to buy a particular wine. The ratings give some insight into whether a particular vintage will mature more or less quickly.One thing the book does not have is an indication of which vintages are "ready now" and/or "at peak." If this were done by region or by producer it would be a great addition.If this review was useful please let me know by voting for it.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. My big problem is that I suspect it is mainly useful in Italy By WR I am fond of Italian wines and travel in Italy every year. This guide seems comprehensive and well informed. A minor gripe is that the indices are not very helpful. My big problem is that I suspect it is mainly useful in Italy. Even in very large U. S. online wine stores, the Italian wines they have on offer mostly go unmentioned in this guide. Many wonderful Italian wines are just not exported at all, or in extremely limited quantities. This is not a great guide for the U. S. consumer.

Map you can read By Shopperbarb Well, the reason I wanted this map is because I read Marcia Willet books and they all happen in Cornwall, since I have never been there, I like to know what location she is speaking about. We are going to be in places with little to no cell service so GPS won't work and it's also much easier to figure out where we should be with a larger map to look at (plus I love maps!).

Sneak Peek By MeBerri I am not really a fan of reading long novels, but I have been SUPER excited to watch the new movie The Martian, with Matt Damon. I couldn't stand the suspense, so I picked this book up as a Kindle Unlimited read. It gave a great generalization of the novel, though I will be very interested to see how the book and the movie differ. The premise of the book sounded really interesting, I can see why they adapted it to film! Reading this Summary only made me more excited to see the movie. Thanks so much, this was a real time saver.
