About the Author Jordan Quinn grew up in a fairy tale castle in England. It had a spiral stone staircase, a moat, and a dungeon. As a child she liked to play hide-and-go-seek and ride her beloved horse, Prince Charming. When she wasn’t riding, she wrote stories about fairies, trolls, dragons, and wizards. Today Jordan lives on a ranch in California with her husband, son, and a golden retriever named Sir Toots-a-Lot.Robert McPhillips has been involved in a wide variety of projects over the years—from illustrating greeting cards to animation, though he especially loves illustrating children’s books. 2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. "That was a stinker" said my 7-year old after he finished this book By sunny swimmer My 7-year old son LOVED The first seven books of this series. The author can't write fast enough for him! I pre-ordered this book and my son was elated when at last it arrived; he ripped open the envelope and disappeared gleefully with The Secret World of Mermaids. When he resurfaced about 45 minutes he said "well, that was a stinker". He was bitterly disappointed, and I was shocked. Again, he really loved all the books in the series until this one. When I asked why he thought it was such a stinker he explained "there was no mystery, no adventure, nothing actually happened". He said that the central character met a mermaid, that was it. I read through the book after this and have to agree that it was nothing like the others - very dull and without spark or shine. It seemed like the author was just checking a box by writing this book. Sad. It was a fun and lively series until this latest book.
2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. These books are a hit for boys or girls!!! Great for summer reading!! By Danomite While I have not read this book myself I have to write a review. My 8 year old son loves these books so much. We bought this book hoping he would get into it for a few days and he grabbed it before getting into the car and by the time we were to our destination he was done. (not a trip, just one errand) He flew through it and is asking constantly when the next book is coming out. If that is not a good review I do not know what is.And typically by the 8th book in a series the subject can get old - obviously these books are still very interesting. While it is a bit easy for an 8 year old, it is also still a great series for this age. Cannot say enough good things about these books. The only problem? They do not come out fast enough. :)

Perry As always with this series, a good story which is not too taxing for the young and sometimes reluctant readers. These books are a gentle introduction to fantasy, fairytales and adventure in a safe and not too scary way. Each page is filled with lush illustrations which expand on the story and the world with beautiful depictions of the environments and characters. We also noticed this introduction to mermaids (In Wrenly at least) centers around the boy character Lucas, making it a bit different and more inclusive for both boys and girls. The kids also enjoyed all the wider images of the many underwater scenes and all the clues to the shy mermaids and men of Wrenly. This book expands further on the Kingdom we have seen so far and makes each visit and re-visit to this charming place a richer and more welcome one. We can’t wait for the next book and hope this series goes on and on!
