This is "Life on the Mississippi" but by Albert Payson Terhune, it is a wonderful Terhune story full of action and good an evil and his transparent insightful writing. It involves two boys and a dog (guess what breed) on a raft in a Mississippi river flood. Full of trust, discovery, and ingenuity.As I understand it, this is the first time it has been published as any kind of book; it was originally published in "Country Gentleman" magazine in the early 1920's. To find something new by Terhune after all these years is wonderful.
